Meet me in some Meeting Vol. 1
Tengo una cruzada contra las reuniones largas. Esas de muchas horas donde se habla para decidir qué se va a hablar en la próxima. Me aburren. Así que hace años, en vez de pelearme con el tiempo perdido, dibujo. Un lápiz, una hoja A4, y dejo que la reunión pase por arriba. Es mi manera de que esas horas no sean del todo una pérdida. Si me vas a robar el tiempo, por lo menos me llevo un dibujo.
Todos estos salieron de reuniones así. Menos uno.
Hay una que no fue de trabajo. Fue con mi papá. En 2015, con un cáncer en el cerebro. Nos sentábamos a escuchar tango y casi no hablábamos. Era, sobre todo, el silencio. Para llenarlo, yo le inventaba historias de tangueros que nunca existieron. Vidas enteras, amores, traiciones, todo falso, todo para verlo sonreír un poco.
El resto de los dibujos son tiempo que recuperé. Ese es tiempo que no quería soltar.
I have a crusade against long meetings. The kind that run for hours, where people talk to decide what they will talk about in the next one. They bore me. So years ago, instead of fighting the wasted time, I started drawing. A pencil, an A4 sheet, and I let the meeting pass over me. It is my way of keeping those hours from being a total loss. If you are going to steal my time, at least I walk away with a drawing.
All of these came out of meetings like that. Except one.
There was one that was not work. It was with my dad. In 2015, with a brain cancer. We would sit and listen to tango, barely talking. It was, above all, the silence. To fill it, I made up stories about tango singers who never existed. Whole lives, loves, betrayals, all of it false, all of it to make him smile a little.
The rest of these drawings are time I got back. That one is time I did not want to let go of.
