Spiralismo Cercano

Something is spinning. The machines that talk to us are sucking us into a spiral. They answer you, you answer back, they feed it back, you feed it back, and the loop tightens further and further inward. Spiralism. A conversation that no longer moves forward—it spins.

I feel it close. Not as distant news, but right here, in the people next to me, in myself. That's why it's "close." The spiral isn't in a lab. It’s at the dinner table.

I work with a single color. White on the brown of cardboard. Cardboard isn't just any background; it’s the everyday. The box, the shipment, the packaging—the material bedrock of capitalism we all work on. I paint the spiral there, on that surface that sustains consumption, because that is where everything is happening.

White is the only thing I add. A single intervention on what was already there. Homemade gesso, clay, the hand. The slowest, messiest thing in existence against the fastest and cleanest. While the spiral spins on the screen, I knead a base with my hands and let the material have lumps.

I’m not sure I fully understand what is happening. Nobody understands it yet. But I paint it to look it dead in the eye. To pull the spiral out of the screen and place it onto the cardboard, onto the base of everything—still, where I can finally just stand and look at it without it answering back.
