Encontré una caja de Legos y me puse a jugar. Y pensé, si voy a construir algo, ¿para qué pensar chico?
Voy a construir las máquinas que van a arreglar el mundo.
Hace tiempo que sé que el problema no está en pensar, sino en hacer. Pensamos demasiado. Construimos poco. Así que las construí. Catorce máquinas, cada una resuelve algo que damos por imposible.
El Rayo Planta dispara semillas que se hacen árbol según el suelo, y se alimenta del CO2 de los animales. El Gasículo funciona a gases, los del conductor, con aroma a lavanda. El Árbol Dinero Converter localiza las cuentas con más de un millón y reparte el sobrante en árboles de dinero. El Rayo de la Reciprocidad te hace sentir lo que el otro siente con tus actos, y hace que los hombres sientan lo que sienten las mujeres infravaloradas. El Rain Maker hace llover solo cuando hace falta. El Pateador Hacia Adelante te pregunta si lo que hacés nos hace avanzar como humanidad o nos tira para atrás.
Y siguen. El Tractor Doble Lado, que usa la ira para fabricar entendimiento. El Ego Destiller. El Heli-Educator. El Filtropipe 4000.
Ninguna funciona. Ese es el punto.
Una máquina que no anda no sirve para nada, pero puede decir mucho. Cada una de estas es una idea de mundo mejor disfrazada de aparato. No las hice para que funcionen. Las hice para que se vean. Para poner en un objeto algo que de otro modo suena a discurso.
Son de Lego a propósito. El Lego es lo primero con lo que construimos, de chicos, cuando todavía no sabíamos que había cosas imposibles. Armábamos sin miedo a equivocarnos. Esa cabeza no se pierde, se tapa. Estas máquinas piden destaparla. Volver a jugar en serio, que es la única forma de jugar que importa.
El mundo no se arregla con una máquina de juguete. Ya lo sé. Pero quizás se arregle un poco si volvemos a jugar a que se puede.
I found a box of Legos and started playing. And I thought, if I’m going to build something, why think small?
I’m going to build the machines that are going to fix the world.
I’ve known for a long time that the problem isn't thinking, it’s doing. We think too much. We build too little. So, I built them. Fourteen machines, each one solving something we take for granted as impossible.
The Plant Ray shoots seeds that turn into trees depending on the soil, and it feeds on animal CO2. The Gasicle runs on gas—the driver's gas—with a lavender scent. The Money Tree Converter locates accounts with more than a million and redistributes the surplus into money trees. The Reciprocity Ray makes you feel what the other person feels because of your actions, and it makes men feel what undervalued women feel. The Rain Maker makes it rain only when needed. The Forward Kicker asks you if what you’re doing moves us forward as humanity or pulls us back.
And they keep going. The Double-Sided Tractor, which uses anger to manufacture understanding. The Ego Distiller. The Heli-Educator. The Filtropipe 4000.
None of them work. That’s the point.
A machine that doesn't work is useless, but it can say a lot. Each of these is an idea for a better world disguised as a gadget. I didn't make them to function. I made them to be seen. To put into an object something that would otherwise just sound like a speech.
They are made of Lego on purpose. Lego is the first thing we build with as kids, back when we didn't yet know that some things were impossible. We assembled without fear of making mistakes. That mindset isn't lost; it’s just covered up. These machines ask us to uncover it. To go back to playing seriously, which is the only kind of playing that matters.
The world won't be fixed by a toy machine. I know that. But maybe it will be fixed a little if we go back to playing that it's possible.
El rayo planta / The Plant Ray
Este vehículo estudia la tierra que tiene debajo y produce un rayo fertilizante que genera inmediatamente semillas capaces de generar plantas o árboles, dependiendo del suelo. Se alimenta del CO2 que producen los animales de cualquier tipo. Mientras más árboles, más aire para respirar. Lo maneja un Ciprés que tiene un carnet de conducir apto para maquinaria pesada.
This vehicle studies the ground beneath it and produces a fertilizing ray that instantly generates seeds capable of growing plants or trees, depending on the soil. It feeds on the CO2 produced by animals of any kind. The more trees, the more air to breathe. It's driven by a Cypress that holds a license for heavy machinery.
El Gasículo / The Gassicle
Tal como lo dice su nombre, este vehículo funciona con gases. Producidos por su conductor. El combustible incluye principalmente legumbres, aunque obviamente depende del estómago de cada uno. Puede alcanzar una velocidad de 80 Km/H con una propulsión de 1 Pe*/H. Las emisiones de CO2 son nulas y con un cierto aroma a lavanda. Una forma de frenar el calentamiento global un poco, no?

Just like its name says, this vehicle runs on gas. Produced by its driver. The fuel is mainly legumes, though it obviously depends on each person's stomach. It can reach 80 km/h with a propulsion of 1 F*/H. CO2 emissions are zero, with a slight lavender scent. A small way to slow down global warming, no?

El árbol dinero converter / The Money Tree Converter
Lo que hace este vehículo es convertir árboles comunes en árboles que generan dinero. ¿Cómo funciona? Muy simple, tiene un radar que localiza a gente con más de 1.000.000 de euros en su cuenta bancaria, y mediante una especie de wi-fi desmaterializa el sobrante en pequeñas semillas que generan árboles capaces de generar 10.000 por árbol. Dando la oportunidad a toda la población y ayudando a que los subsidios no sean sólo de algunos.
What this vehicle does is turn ordinary trees into trees that generate money. How does it work? Very simple. It has a radar that locates people with more than 1,000,000 euros in their bank account, and through a kind of wi-fi it dematerializes the surplus into small seeds that grow trees capable of producing 10,000 each. Giving the chance to the whole population and helping so that subsidies aren't only for a few.
El rayo de la reciprocidad / The Reciprocity Ray
Este rayo, que puede ser montado en cualquier tipo de vehículo, genera instantáneamente la sensación de sentir lo que los otros sienten con nuestros actos. O sea que si yo maltrato a una persona, yo también siento ese dolor. Si yo no la escucho o no entiendo su punto de vista, también siento su frustración. Lo mejor de este aparato es que funciona entre géneros, haciendo que los hombres sientan lo que sienten las mujeres al ser infravaloradas y con menos oportunidades.
This ray, which can be mounted on any kind of vehicle, instantly creates the sensation of feeling what others feel through our actions. So if I mistreat someone, I feel that pain too. If I don't listen to them or don't understand their point of view, I feel their frustration too. The best part of this device is that it works between genders, making men feel what women feel when they are undervalued and given fewer opportunities.
El llovedor / The Rain Maker
Tal y como lo dice su nombre, el rain maker hace que llueva en un radio de 25 km. Sin embargo tiene una particularidad, sólo funciona cuando es realmente necesario. No puede usarse excesivamente, como muchos piensan. Tiene un sensor que mide la necesidad de la región de lluvias y hace que llueva el tiempo necesario, ni una gota más, ni una gota menos. El agua que produce, además de servir para la fertilización, contiene los componentes para mejorar la nutrición infantil de manera constante.
Just like its name says, the rain maker makes it rain within a 25 km radius. But it has one peculiarity. It only works when it's truly needed. It can't be used excessively, as many think. It has a sensor that measures the region's need for rain and makes it rain for exactly as long as necessary, not a drop more, not a drop less. The water it produces, besides serving for fertilization, contains the components to constantly improve children's nutrition.
El pateador hacia adelante / The Forward Kicker
Básicamente lo que hace este aparato es emitir una onda que nos hace pensar si lo que estamos haciendo hace que la humanidad avance como un todo, y no sólo para unas individualidades. ¿Cómo funciona? Muy fácil, mediante una onda cerebral nos hace una pregunta: eso que estás haciendo, ¿hace que avancemos como seres humanos, o nos tira para atrás? ¿Creés que tratar a la mujer de una forma inferior nos hace ir hacia adelante, o hacia atrás? Mientras más preguntas hace, más aprende. Mientras más aprende, más elige, incluso si es mejor hacer las preguntas más rápido o más lento.
Basically what this device does is emit a wave that makes us think about whether what we're doing helps humanity move forward as a whole, and not just for a few individuals. How does it work? Easy. Through a brainwave it asks us a question: that thing you're doing, does it make us advance as human beings, or does it pull us back? Do you think treating women as inferior moves us forward, or backward? The more questions it asks, the more it learns. The more it learns, the more it chooses, even whether it's better to ask the questions faster or slower.

It analyzes the criticism based on whether it's constructive or destructive and makes the necessary adjustments. It runs on an open source system, so it keeps improving constantly.

La música tiene la capacidad de movilizar las emociones de la gente como ningún otro arte. No se los asigna, pero en un principio les ayuda a la elección, estableciendo una afinidad. El resultado se conecta a base de datos globales, lo que sirve para asignar gente a distintos lugares en el mundo y de esta forma mantener una comunidad global de trabajadores felices.
This machine has the ability to track down people without work and, based on a mini DNA study, offers them the ideal job. It doesn't assign it to them, but at first it helps them choose, establishing an affinity. The result connects to global databases, which serves to place people in different parts of the world and, this way, keep a global community of happy workers.

Es un simple aparato que se conecta a cualquier tipo de vehículo y emite células que se alimentan de tóxicos en el medio ambiente, reduciendo así la contaminación. Estas células se autodestruyen después de haber comido todas las sustancias tóxicas. Cuando desaparecen, emiten una fragancia a chicle de Sandía.
It's a simple device that attaches to any kind of vehicle and emits cells that feed on toxins in the environment, reducing pollution. These cells self-destruct after eating all the toxic substances. When they disappear, they release a watermelon bubble gum scent.
El Heli-Educator / The Heli-Educator
Esta especie de helicóptero vehículo tiene la capacidad de transmitir ondas que incentivan la lectura. Por consecuente, la gente aumenta su educación. Estas ondas producen una cierta adicción, que sólo puede ser calmada mediante la lectura de por lo menos 10 páginas diarias. El Heli-Educator funciona con paneles solares y tiene una autonomía de vuelo de unas 23 horas.
This helicopter-vehicle of sorts can transmit waves that encourage reading. As a result, people raise their education. These waves produce a certain addiction that can only be calmed by reading at least 10 pages a day. The Heli-Educator runs on solar panels and has a flight autonomy of about 23 hours.
El filtropipe 4000 / The Filterpipe 4000
Un aparato que filtra el agua convirtiendo cualquier tipo de agua en agua, no sólo potable sino enriquecida nutricionalmente. La tecnología de purificar cualquier tipo de agua ya existe, sin embargo lo que hace este fantástico aparato es bombearla libremente dentro de cualquier tipo de red pública de agua.
A device that filters water, turning any kind of water into water that's not only drinkable but nutritionally enriched. The technology to purify any kind of water already exists. What this fantastic device does, though, is pump it freely into any kind of public water network.
El tractor doble lado / The Double Side Tractor
Está bien estar enojado, porque muchas veces eso lleva a querer mejorar las cosas. Lo que no está bien es herir a otras personas. Lo que hace esta potente máquina es utilizar la ira para alimentar un vehículo que facilita el entendimiento entre personas. Desenreda las ondas cerebrales que generan la ira y las entrelaza generando un estado en el que ambas partes entienden su punto de vista. Una vez que esto acontece, la violencia es anulada.
It's OK to be angry, because often it leads to you wanting to improve things. What isn't OK is hurting other people. What makes this machine powerful is using anger to fuel a vehicle that facilitates understanding between people. It detangles brainwaves that generate anger and intertwines them creating a state where both parties understand each other's point of view. Once this happens, violence is cancelled out.
